India EU trade
India and the European Union have signed an agreement for greater cooperation on trade and other issues. It comes after talks between the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and India's Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. This report from Roland Buerk:

Tony Blair described the summit as a significant turning point in the relations between the European Union and India. Speaking after talks with the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, Mr Blair said that Europe must have a relationship of equals with India for mutual benefit.

Just a decade or so ago at a summit like this, Indian leaders would have been asking Europe for a helping hand. But now India is emerging as an economic force with the fastest growth of any democratic nation. The new buying power was underlined by India's announcement to coincide with the talks that it will buy forty three Airbus planes made in Europe. The deal will be worth two-point-two billion dollars.

The two prime ministers also agreed to increase cooperation to tackle global warming and terrorism. Mr Blair said there would be better coordination between police forces in Europe and India to stop terrorist groups crossing borders and to prevent money laundering. Facing the Winds

Typhoon Talim made landfall in Taiwan’s Hualien County, battering its coastline with heavy rains and powerful category 14 winds. Some residents there lost power, but the county generally avoided any major disasters overnight.
Typhoon Talim made landfall just after 1am on Thursday morning near Hualien County’s Liwu River delta. Although the rain tailed off after daylight, the storm’s winds remained powerful, hitting a high of category 14. Even reporters on the scene had trouble standing still for the camera.
This FTV reporter described how hard it was to stand in place in the face of winds that were growing in strength.
As reporters were delivering first hand accounts of the storm’s force, they noticed some individuals were taking a close look at the massive waves. After wreaking havoc overnight, the storm’s winds left behind a trail of trees and signs that had been blown into Hualien’s desolate streets.
This resident said the winds were powerful and that electricity had been cut off in the area.
Although some Hualien residents were without power, the county itself managed
to avoid any major disasters.

You already know that recycling is important. It helps us make less trash and use less energy. Many countries are now recycling to make the world cleaner. One of the most common things to recycle is plastic. You can recycle bottles, shopping bags, CDs, and other things made of plastic. But do you know what happens to plastic when it is recycled? First, the plastics cleaned. Seconds, it is cut into small pieces. Finally, it is melted and then made into new products. In American, half of the recycled plastic soda bottles are made into new bottles. The rest of the bottles are made into things that we use every day. (From LiveABC, February 2004)

Healthy Diet

Monica: Mmm. Smells good. What kind of food are you making? It does not look like the traditional Chinese noodles.

Niki: That’s right! I am making pasta with tomato sauce for my diet. However, my tomato sauce is different from others. This one has fresh tomatoes simmered with onion and basil into a rich tomato pasta. I am also having a salad with cherry tomatoes and golden tomato slices. There’s also tomato drinkable yogurt to start with. That sounds healthy…Yummy!

Monica: That’s right! I think the carotenoids in tomatoes are supposed to be good for your health. Well, I am sure it will all taste great. That’s a little heavy on the tomatoes, isn’t it? I like tomatoes, but isn’t this going overboard. What’s wrong with you Niki? You used to like meat so much!

Niki: Yes! However, I have decided to keep my body fit and healthy! That’s why I am eating more and more tomatoes. You know it’s a kind of less in calorie and low in fat food.

Monica: YA! Maybe! I heard that tomato is one kind of low Cholesterol food to take while you are trying to keep yourself fit. But, it sounds too much…….tomatoes.

Niki: Yes! I think so! But how can I do to make myself fit and healthy?

Monica: If I were you, I would rather have good eating habit and balanced diet. Maybe, you should exercise more instead of eating a lot of tomatoes. How do you think?

Niki: I am really lazy for working out! Isn’t there any other better and easier way to keep fit and healthy?

Monica: How about an easy health diet?

Niki: How easy?

Monica: You only need to be careful about the colors of the food you eat.Sufficient and even amount of red, yellow, black, white and green food every day will keep you healthy. For example, tomato is red, spinach is green, rice is white, agarics are black and sweet pepper is yellow and so on.

Niki: It sounds really easy and workable for me.

Monica: Also, remember less fat, less calorie and less sodium is good for you.And most important of all, don’t eat too much.

Niki: All right. I’ll try whatever you say.
