Facts and History
In the fall of 1965, preparatory plans for the school were approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), and in 1969, Chung Chou Vocational Institute of Engineering was established. In 1980, Mr. Niu Jian-Chu, a legislator who was passionate about education, organized a new board of trustees to take over the administration of Chung Chou and established the scale and foundation that exists today. In 1991, the school’s name was approved by the MOE to be changed to Chung Chou Junior College of Technology. In 2000, MOE approved the school’s name to be changed to Chung Chou Institute of Technology. In 1980, Mr. Chai Qin-Ming became the institute’s president and was succeeded by Mr. Tang Jhen-He, former Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Education in 1992. In March, 1993, Mr. Chai Yun-Ching, Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, CCUT, became the president. In August, 2004, Dr. Shih Neng-Ren, Professor of National Changhua University of Education became the president. On March 1st, 2007, Dr. Tso-Kwei Peng was inaugurated as the 3rd president of Chung Chou Institute of Technology.
In 1980, Mr. Chai Qin-Ming took office as the President of CCUT and was succeeded by Mr. Tang Jhen-He, former Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Education in 1992. In March, 1993, Mr. Chai Yun-Ching, professor of the Department of mechanical engineering, CCUT, became the President. In August, 2004, Dr. Shih Neng-Ren, professor of National Changhua University of Education, succeeded as president.
In March, 2007, the board of trustees had the honor to hire Professor Tso-kwei Peng, former Executive Yuan Council of Agriculture Commissioner and former National Chung Hsing University President, to be the President of CCUT till now. Dr. Peng became the 3th president of Chung Chou Institute of Technology in March, 2007. He is guiding the transformation of CCUT into one of the nation’s best technological and vocational institutes, one that is directly engaged in the economic, social, and cultural vitality of its region. Under his direction the institute pursues teaching, research, and creative excellence focused on the major challenges and questions of our time. He has committed the institute to international engagement, and to setting a new standard for private technological universities and colleges.
Since he took office, CCUT has marked a number of important milestones, including the establishment of interdisciplinary research initiatives such as R&D Center for Health Food, Center for Food Inspection Center for Industrial Technology R&D and Design. Under his direction, departments offering programs concerning human wellness has been established, including Department of Nutrition and Health Science, Department of Culinary Arts, and Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion.
